AFTD Food for Thought 2021
It’s time to prepare for Food for Thought 2021!
It’s time to prepare for Food for Thought 2021! This grassroots fundraising and awareness campaign, sponsored by the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD), uses food-focused events as a way to teach people about frontotemporal degeneration (FTD).
This year FFT will be September 26 through October 10, 2021, which overlaps with FTD World Awareness Week.
You can host an event of your choosing that includes eating, sharing your story about the disease, and spreading the word about FTD, while raising funds to support AFTD’s mission. Educational materials are available from AFTD.
To get started, fill out a contact form, and an AFTD volunteer will assist you throughout the process.
You decide how simple or elaborate your event will be. could be a one-time event or a daily activity during the two-week campaign. Below are a handful of food suggestions:
- Host a virtual dinner: Use a video sharing platform (FaceTime, Zoom, Skype, Facebook Messenger, Google Hangouts, WhatsApp, House Party, etc.) to connect with family and friends over a meal.
- Share food facts and recipes: Create a fundraiser on the Classy platform and every day during the two-week campaign share an FTD fact along with a recipe or picture of a meal you ate that day.
- Arrange a restaurant giveback: Ask a local restaurant to host a giveback night for all to-go (and/or dine-in orders) with a portion of the proceeds going to AFTD. Invite your family and friends to order at that restaurant.
- Cook together: Gather a group on a video sharing platform for a virtual “cooking together” night and agree on the same recipe that all make from their home.
- Make “to-go” orders of a homemade specialty dish and include information about FTD at pickup or delivery.
- Create a Facebook fundraiser and share recipes, pictures, and FTD facts, accepting donations on each post.
Due to health and safety concerns about COVID-19, AFTD suggests virtual gatherings and other creative responses. In some communities — if health, safety, local and state guidelines, and your own comfort allow — you may choose to host a small in-person gathering.
Complete a Contact Form to receive more information and be paired with a trained volunteer for one-on-one support throughout the campaign.
Together we can find a cure for ftd
The FTD Disorders Registry is a powerful tool in the movement to create therapies and find a cure. Together we can help change the course of the disease and put an end to FTD.
