Learn about "The Speech-Language Pathologist’s Role in FTD Care" during a webinar on Wednesday, June 16, 2021. The presentation, hosted by The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD), will be from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. Eastern (1:00-2:30 p.m. Pacific).
This webinar will discuss how speech-language pathologists (SLPs) help persons diagnosed with FTD and their families. It will also cover how to develop a functional plan of care to increase participation in daily activities.
Becky Khayum, MS, CC-SLP, of Cognitive Concierge, will talk about ways SLPs can address cognitive challenges, including speaking, comprehension, reading, writing, memory, insight, and behavioral changes. Additionally, she will describe how SLPs work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to develop care approaches for individuals living at home, in assisted living, or in skilled nursing.
She will share strategies for different frontotemporal degeneration (FTD) syndromes, including primary progressive aphasia (PPA), behavioral variant FTD (bvFTD), and the movement disorders.
Topics covered will include:
- The role of the speech-language pathologist in providing person-centered care
- The five evidence-based interventions to target communication, cognition, and behavioral changes related to FTD.
- How technology may be used to support person-centered, evidence-based interventions
