You can affect change, increase understanding of frontotemporal degeneration (FTD), and raise funds for research by participating in the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration’s 7th Annual Food for Thought (FFT) campaign.

This year FFT kicks off on September 22, in conjunction with World FTD Awareness Week, and goes through October 6, 2019.

FFT is a grassroots fundraising and awareness campaign that uses food-focused events and gatherings as a venue for FTD education. Anyone can host an event that includes eating, sharing your story, spreading the word about FTD, and raising money for AFTD. Funds support AFTD’s mission.

“For far too many, the search for an FTD diagnosis brings a sense of isolation, confusion and helplessness,” noted Susan L-J Dickinson, AFTD’s Chief Executive Officer. “And while public awareness of young-onset dementia is growing, far too few know about the most common form for people under 60.”

Held annually on the last week of September through the first week of October, FFT overlaps with World FTD Awareness Week. During this time, people all across the world will host bake sales, restaurant benefit nights, happy hours, dinner parties and more, to raise awareness of FTD.

Events can be large or small. You can team up with friends and family, or plan something yourself. You can cook, pick up to-go, order delivery, meet at a restaurant, or create whatever type event you wish — even an online “virtual” one — as long as it involves food and FTD education.

AFTD makes planning an event easy with the assistance of AFTD staff and volunteers. Complete a Contact Form to receive more information and be paired with a trained, volunteer FFT liaison for one-on-one support throughout the campaign. Checkout their resources available online, including a Host Toolkit, one-on-one support, educational materials, and more.

Plan and register your event by Tuesday, September 3, 2019.
