Due to the coronavirus outbreak, CurePSP has canceled this year's Annual Marco Island Walk.
The 17th Annual CurePSP Awareness & Memorial Walk will be Saturday, March 21, 2020, from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Mackle Park on Marco Island, Florida.
This annual walk is sponsored by CurePSP’s Southwest Florida Support Group which assists those affected by progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), corticobasal degeneration (CBD), and multiple system atrophy (MSA). Signs with the names and photos of those who have died or are currently fighting one of these diseases are placed along the route.
The purpose of the event is to remember and honor those who have passed away, support those suffering now, raise awareness, educate the public, raise money for CurePSP, and tell people about the PSP Support Group in Naples, Florida.
Registration is $25 per person and $10 for students. Participants can register and pay online or download a form and mail in a check. The fee includes a t-shirt and lunch. All proceeds benefit CurePSP.
In addition to the walk, this year’s event includes a silent auction, raffle prizes, and music by Kathy O.
Past events have drawn people from around the United States and the world. For those requesting lodging recommendations, walk coordinators have created a list of hotels.
The SW Florida Support Group began soon after Cindy MacDonald’s mother, Dorothy MacDonald, passed away from complications of her PSP disease. Cindy received phone calls from people in the area who also had PSP and felt like she was being led to begin a support group. The group helped her heal from the loss of her mom.
For more information about the support group and walk, contact Cindy MacDonald, walk coordinator and group co-facilitator, hotrdh@hotmail.com or 239-353-3960. You can also visit the SW FL CurePSP Support Group website.
CurePSP is the leading source of information and support for patients and their families, other caregivers, researchers, and healthcare professionals on prime of life neurodegeneration including PSP, CBD, MSA, and related diseases. For more information, visit the CurePSP website.
