Julie Hicks, MA, CCC-SLP, a speech-language pathologist, will discuss swallowing issues during a CurePSP Ask the Expert webinar on Monday, June 27, 2022, beginning at 6:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (3:00 p.m. Pacific).

Swallowing dysfunction, also called dysphagia, is a common complaint in patients with progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), multiple system atrophy (MSA), and corticobasal degeneration (CBD) at some point in the disease course. Symptoms may include trouble chewing, prolonged meal times, persistent drooling, coughing or choking when eating/drinking, and a sensation of food sticking in the throat or chest.

During this webinar, Hicks will review the signs and symptoms of dysphagia and explain how speech-language pathologists help manage these progressive changes over time.

Any medications referred to during this event should not be tried unless under the supervision of a licensed professional.

Questions that are submitted during registration will be answered at the end of the session. You also can email questions to info@curepsp.org.

Registration is required. Links to the webinar will be emailed two hours before the event and 15 minutes before the event.

Julie Hicks completed her bachelor’s degree in Linguistics and Psychology at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and her master’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Florida.
