CurePSP Hope as Big as Texas: September 15, 2022

The 2022 Hope as Big as Texas event on Thursday, September 15, 2022, celebrates hope and Hispanic heritage. Proceeds will support families through grants for in-home respite care.

The virtual event includes entertainment, a silent auction, and the program. Mix & Mingle time will be from 5:30 to 6:00 p.m., and the main event will be from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Texas (Central) Time.

This celebration will explore the connection between caregivers and Hispanic artists. It will be broadcast in English and Spanish.

Presenters at this year’s event include:

• Henry Cisneros, Honorary Event Chair, the 10th U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)
• Dr. Kristophe Diaz, CurePSP Executive Director
• Guillermo Nicolas, son of Univision Founder and PSP patient Emilio Nicolas, Sr., presenting "A Son's Loving Tribute to His Dad."
• Angela Torres, LMSW, UT Health San Antonio
• Elizabeth Peckham, D.O., Central Texas Neurology Consultants, Round Rock, Texas, presenting "The Role of the Neurologist."
• Emily Yan, a Dual-Degree Medical Student at the University of Texas at Austin, presenting "Art as Healing for Patients and Caregivers."

There are two ticket types available to participate:

1. General Admission is $20.
2. Pay It Forward is $40.

Choosing the Pay It Forward Ticket gives access to the virtual event as well as pays for someone with budget restrictions to attend. Those who are unable to afford a ticket can use the promo code TEXAS22.

Hope as Big as Texas seeks to raise awareness while also supporting families impacted by progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), corticobasal degeneration (CBD), and multiple system atrophy (MSA) through grants from the Cherie Levien Quality of Life Fund.

Studies have shown that these diseases affect all ethnicities equally. However, they are often underdiagnosed in rural and underserved areas without a Movement Disorders Specialist.

CHERIE LEVIEN QUALITY OF LIFE FUND

The Quality of Life fund was established in 2017 by Larry Levien in honor of his wife who was diagnosed with PSP. Each grant awards 60 professional hours for in-home care services through Griswold Home Care or an alternative home care agency.

Studies show that even a brief break from caregiving demands can reduce stress and improve daily life for caregivers and persons diagnosed.

In 2021 Hope as Big as Texas raised funds to provide support to 40 families with PSP, CBD, or MSA. To date, the fund has provided professional caregiving services to more than 100 families.

Each dollar of your donation will be matched up to $35,000, thanks to the generosity of sponsoring donors.

The silent auction site will open on Monday, September 12, 2022. Additionally, there is an online Activity and Comment Wall to engage with others prior to the event.
