“Have you ever served in the military?” The purpose of this quick question was to assess the military status of individuals diagnosed with FTD.

In July 2023, the Registry used communication channels to ask participants, “Have you ever
served in the military?” The purpose of this quick question was to assess the military status
of individuals diagnosed with FTD. Participants submitted their answers during a three-week
timeframe
 via email, Facebook and Twitter. The respondents consist of diagnosed persons
who answered for themselves and biological family members, spouses, caregivers and
friends who answered on behalf of a FTD diagnosed loved one.

Result Highlights:

  • There were approximately 873 total respondents.
  • Majority (727) of the respondents reported no current or prior military service
  • Of the 146 respondents who reported “yes” to military service, 119 were active duty and 27 were in the reserve.
  • 100 % of the FTD diagnosed persons answering for themselves (133) indicated no military service and were represented by 124 females, 9 males.
  • Spouses (405) and biological family member (262) were more likely to answer for a FTD loved one when compared to caregivers (33) and friends (7) who answered the question
  • The overall responses included 454 females and 370 males. 30 participants declined to answer.
  • Approximately 804 of the total respondents were from the United States and 40 respondents were from Canada.

Italy, Switzerland, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Finland, Israel, Japan, Germany, Brazil, Romania, Spain and Australia were also represented in the survey responses.
